When the proposal was brought up to allow the Telephone Company to put a total of 17 poles along the walking trail following the old rail bed. Smitty Price informed them that the rail bed served as a natural levee for the city and had prevented flooding he ask if they would be willing to be responsible if in the course of their drilling they should upset that ability for the railbed to act as a natural levee and ask for a vote to say no which failed.... Sad to say. The telephone company spokesman said they did not think so and would seek another route. This reporter is proud of this stand for other reasons. Rail Road park and the walking trail serve this city well as a icon for our way of life and future generation to come and to make it nothing more than a service way for public utilities would be a shame. Take a bow Mr. Price.
