HOUSTON COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

THE EDUCATION OF TOMORROW TODAY

Welcome to Houston County Schools. Our rural school system is located 75 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee, and is committed to community schools with a clear and educational vision. School safety, a positive learning environment, excellent teaching, student and community involvement and a total commitment to improving the educational experience for all our children are not only goals, but also expectations. Houston County Schools are currently undergoing tremendous change involving facility renovations, instruction and curriculum, total school improvement and long range planning. Both of our K-8 elementary schools and our 9-12 high school have recently received accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This would not be possible without the school system's commitment to students and a professional drive by school employees to improve the educational process. Our vision as a school system and community is to embark on a visionary building program which will be completed by the fall of 2001. This would give our school system and community two K-5 elementary schools, a 6-8 middle school and a new 9-12 high school facility. This would also raise already high expectation, reduce student teacher ratios, improve instructions, upgrade technology for all students and continue to give our students and parents strong community schools focused on learning. Our school system theme is "Preparing Students for Tomorrow" but we enjoy the fruits of our labor today. As superintendent I am proud of the Houston County School System. Because we have small community schools, each student has a face, a name , and the opportunity to be "somebody". Sometimes this truly makes all the difference in a child's future.
